“Two Kentucky bourbons, one wheated and one ryed, married in one bottle under a revived 1874 name.”

Tasting notes

nose
orange zest and honey drops over light oak, with leather, pipe tobacco and cocoa behind
palate
honey and vanilla cream with cola and raspberry, then black pepper, chili and orange rind
finish
long and slightly dry; green peppercorn and vanilla give way to cigar box and dry oak, with a little honey and caramel left at the end

Mash bill

A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.

Corn, wheat, rye and malted barley, from two bourbon recipes, one wheated and one ryed; the split is not published. The two are blended so the softer sweetness of the wheated bourbon meets the spice of the ryed one. The label also marks it as a sour mash whiskey.

Cask
New charred American white oak

Why it's craft

Daviess County blends two straight bourbons, one made with wheat and one with rye. The name revives the Daviess County Distilling Company, which Lux Row dates to 1874 and calls one of Kentucky's first great bourbon distilleries; more than a dozen distilleries followed it in the county before Prohibition. Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, owned by Luxco and its parent MGP Ingredients, brought the name back in 2020.
