Why it's craft
This bottling takes Deerhammer's flagship single malt out of new oak after about four years and finishes it for two more in ex-tawny port casks, all in a rackhouse 8,000 feet up in Buena Vista, Colorado. Deerhammer mashes, ferments and double distills the whiskey itself on squat-head copper pot stills, from barley grown and malted in the San Luis Valley. Amy and Lenny Eckstein founded the distillery in 2010; it makes about one barrel a day and has no outside investors.
