“An orange-and-clove rye that turns creamy and bakery-sweet, finishing on oatmeal raisin cookie.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- candied orange peel with clove and cinnamon, lively citrus and warm spice
- palate
- creamy and layered, with clove-studded orange, dark berries and a touch of toffee
- finish
- warm, rich and lingering; oatmeal raisin and sweet cookie dough carry through to the end
Mash bill
- Rye95%
- Malted rye5%
95% rye, 5% malted rye. With no corn and no barley, the whole bill is rye, and the small malted portion supplies the enzymes for conversion in place of the more usual malted barley. That leaves the grain's spice and fruit unsoftened by corn sweetness. It is cooked as a sour mash and fermented in open tanks.

Why it's craft
This six-year rye is the first Silver Grove rye with that much age, assembled from barrels picked for flavor over uniformity and bottled at full strength without chill filtration. The recipe is nearly all rye with a little malted rye in place of barley. It is sold only at New Riff's Newport distillery, founded in 2014, and part of each sale funds the Silver Grove Community Foundation.
