“A 12-year-old all-rye Canadian whisky that leans to maple, butterscotch and fruit over rye spice, in a bottle embossed like a tooled saddle.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Nutmeg and clove over maple syrup and butterscotch fudge, with dried pineapple, vanilla custard, a little mint and floral grain
- palate
- Light-bodied and sweet, with maple, apple and dried cherry, nutty toffee and muted tropical fruit, then charred oak, pipe tobacco, bitter coffee and a peppery bite
- finish
- Medium in length and on the dry side; tart cherry holds longest alongside orange and grapefruit pith, while white pepper, mint and a faint tobacco note take over as it fades
Mash bill
- Rye100%

Why it's craft
Pendleton does not distill this whisky: it is a 12-year-old, all-rye spirit made at a Canadian distillery the brand does not name, then reduced with Mt. Hood spring water and bottled in Hood River, Oregon. Hood River Distillers, an Oregon company founded in 1934, built the Pendleton brand and agreed in December 2017 to sell it to Becle, the parent of Jose Cuervo, whose US arm Proximo Spirits now runs it; Hood River Distillers stayed on as bottler. The 1910 name marks the year of the first Pendleton Round-Up rodeo.
