“Pendleton's oldest bottling, a 20-year Canadian blend topped with a bronze bucking-horse stopper and a tooled leather neck cuff.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Toasted coconut and fresh cinnamon over vanilla and orange zest, with maple syrup, butterscotch and a layer of oak
- palate
- Very sweet and buttery, with maple, vanilla syrup and ripe apple, pear and banana, then toasted oak, a wisp of smoked wood, baking spice and pecan
- finish
- Long; butterscotch and maple sweetness carry first with a buttery note, then recede as toasty oak and woody spice take over, closing dry on pepper and cinnamon

Why it's craft
Directors' Reserve is the oldest whisky in the Pendleton range, a blend held 20 years in American oak and named for the directors of the Pendleton Round-Up rodeo. It is distilled in Canada by a producer the brand does not name, not by Pendleton, and is reduced with Mt. Hood spring water and bottled by Hood River Distillers in Oregon. The brand belongs to Becle, parent of Jose Cuervo, through its US arm Proximo Spirits, which agreed to buy it from Hood River Distillers in December 2017.
