“A double-oaked blend of Tennessee ryes, cut with Adirondack spring water from a co-founder's family maple farm.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- toffee and maple with baked apple, green apple and vanilla bean, backed by baking spice, a nutty peanut note and old leather
- palate
- light and sweet; caramel, kettle corn and brown sugar give way to cinnamon, pink peppercorn, a touch of dark chocolate and dusty oak
- finish
- moderate and dry; woody spice and black pepper linger with a faint apple note, tapering to warm, dusty oak
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
Rye and corn, with rye the larger share; the split is not published. The whiskeys in the blend were mashed and distilled in Tennessee, and the rye share sets a peppery, cinnamon-led spice while the corn adds kettle-corn and vanilla sweetness.
- Cask
- New charred oak, then a second oak cask
- Finish
- Second oak maturation ("Double Oaked")
Why it's craft
Rodham Rye is a sourced whiskey: Tennessee-distilled ryes chosen and blended in Washington, DC, by a women-owned distillery founded in 2015. The house cuts it with spring water from co-founder Rachel Gardner's family maple farm in the Adirondacks, gives it a second round in oak, and hand-writes batch numbers and the founders' signatures on the label. Part of each sale goes to EMILY's List.
