“An all-rye whiskey distilled in Canada and aged in New York, given a final rest in used Uncle Nearest barrels in Tennessee.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Praline and caramelized sugar up front, with nutmeg, white pepper, hay and a buttery toasted-grain note under a light fruit-cup sweetness
- palate
- Vanilla cream and burnt sugar meet a wave of rye spice and cracked pepper; candied orange surfaces midway, while cinnamon toast, brown butter and clove give it a savory turn
- finish
- Long and warming; peppery rye spice and leather linger over seasoned oak while a thread of butterscotch fades out, leaving it spicy and dry
Mash bill
- Rye100%
100% rye. The whiskey is made from rye alone, with no corn or barley, which pushes the grain's pepper and spice to the front. It was distilled at an undisclosed Canadian distillery, not in Tennessee.

Why it's craft
Uncle Nearest did not distill this rye: it was made from rye alone at an undisclosed Canadian distillery and aged at least four years in New York before coming to Shelbyville. There it rests in barrels that previously held Uncle Nearest's own whiskey, and master blender Victoria Eady Butler signs off on each batch.
