“Wood Hat's original bourbon: blue corn and wheat, full-bodied and buttery.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Browned butter, caramel corn and candied red apple, with vanilla, toasted nuts and a hint of butterscotch
- palate
- Full and round, carrying dark cherry, mocha and toasted oak alongside baking spice and a dry char
- finish
- Butter and black pepper linger with dry popcorn, the warmth staying gentle as it dries toward oak
Mash bill
- Blue corn75%
- Wheat25%
75% blue corn, 25% wheat. The blue corn is grown and bred by Wood Hat, and the distillery credits it with this bourbon's full, rounded mouthfeel. Wheat takes the place of rye as the second grain, making it a wheated bourbon.
- Cask
- Chinquapin white oak, heavy toast then charred

Why it's craft
Rubenesque was among the first bourbons recognized as Missouri Bourbon after the 2019 state law that Hinegardner and the Missouri Craft Distillers Guild pushed through, requiring Missouri corn and oak. Wood Hat grows the blue corn, mashes, distills and ages it in New Florence, and the distillery remains independent and founder-owned.
