Lucky Bastard Distillers opened in May 2012 as Saskatoon's first operating distillery since Prohibition, founded by friends Cary Bowman, Michael Goldney, and Lacey Crocker after a 2010 holiday brainstorm. The trio started on Avenue B with vodka paying the bills while malt slept in oak, then moved to a larger 47th Street East plant as the lineup grew past thirty SKUs. Their whisky program stays small-batch and grain-to-glass: 100% Saskatchewan barley from Makers Malt, double-distilled, and aged for years before release — the current Single Malt was barreled in 2019 and bottled after six years at 43% ABV.
