George Garvin Brown introduced Old Forester in 1870 as the first bourbon sold only in sealed bottles, and it was the first product of what became Brown-Forman. It is the only bourbon brand sold continuously before, during and after Prohibition. The whiskey is made from a 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley mash, and in 2018 the brand opened the Old Forester Distilling Co. at 119 West Main Street, back on the Whiskey Row block where the company once operated, with its own cooperage and warehouse on site. Brown-Forman, still controlled by the Brown family, owns the brand.
Owned by Brown-Forman.
