Named for founder Michael Paladini's daughter, Penelope Bourbon launched in 2018 when Paladini and childhood friend Daniel Polise set out to blend approachable, full-flavored American whiskey rather than build a distillery. Its signature is multi-mash-bill four-grain bourbon of corn, wheat, rye and malted barley, sourced mainly from MGP's Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, then selected and finished under the Penelope name. Later releases added toasted finishes, French-oak Architect stave work with Tonnellerie Radoux OakScan, and the Cooper Series, named for Polise's son, which finishes Penelope whiskey in wine, rum, honey and exotic oak casks. MGP Ingredients bought Penelope through Luxco in June 2023, and the founders still lead the brand. Almost every expression is sourced whiskey that Penelope blends and finishes.
