“Scottish peated malt, made and matured in tropical Bengaluru.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Dry peat smoke with an old-leather note, a little bacon and a squeeze of citrus
- palate
- Molasses sweetness first, then peat that builds and turns the palate drier and spicier, with toffee, malted grain and orchard fruit underneath
- finish
- Medium length; smoke wrapped in butterscotch and vanilla, fading to black tea
Mash bill
- Peated malted barley100%
100% peated malted barley, imported from Scotland. Amrut's unpeated flagship uses Indian six-row barley, but its peated range is made only from Scottish malt, peated to about 24 parts per million. Amrut's Fusion uses this same peated Scottish malt for a quarter of its recipe; here it is the whole recipe.

Why it's craft
Amrut imports its peated malt from Scotland but makes and ages the whisky in southern India, so the smoke of Scottish barley meets maturation in tropical heat. This fully peated bottling sits in the core range beside the unpeated flagship and Fusion, which uses a quarter peated malt. Amrut was founded in Bengaluru in 1948 and is still owned and run by the Jagdale family.
