“Two high-rye bourbons from Indiana and Kentucky, six to eight years old, at 90.4 proof”
Tasting notes
- nose
- high-rye spice meeting caramel and toasted oak, with a soft vanilla lift that keeps the spice from shouting
- palate
- rich and balanced — caramel, baking spice, and rye snap in equal measure without barrel-proof heat
- finish
- lingering spice, cocoa, and sweet oak
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
Proprietary blend of two high-rye mash bills (~30% rye content) with complementary yeast strains. Exact grain percentages are not printed as a single house mash — the sell is high-rye spice from carefully selected sourced bourbons rather than a Green Brier wheated Tennessee mash. Pitch high-rye blend, 6-8 years — not a fake 70/20/10.
- Cask
- New charred American oak (component bourbons)
- Best served
- versatile
Why it's craft
Belle Meade is the Nelson brothers' own bourbon brand, and it is blended rather than distilled: Andy and Charlie Nelson pick barrels of high-rye bourbon from other distilleries and marry them. They regained the brand at the end of 2024 and relaunched Classic as its core bottling in Nashville in 2025.
