“Nine-year Indiana bourbon brought down in strength slowly in the barrel, nutty and minty.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- toasted almond, pecan and hazelnut, then caramel, vanilla, green apple and ripe pear, with a cool line of spearmint and baking spice over oak
- palate
- thin but oily; brown sugar, cinnamon and almond move into tart apple, raisin and leather, closing on mint, dried tobacco and toasted oak with caramel underneath
- finish
- medium; wintergreen, caramel and almond hang on with toasted oak and leather as the vanilla and apple fade, turning dry, toasty and faintly herbal at the close
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
A blend of two bourbon recipes, one of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley and one of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley; the ratio between them is not published. Both were distilled in Indiana by MGP, not in Holland. The 36% recipe is one of the highest rye shares a bourbon carries, and it gives the blend its mint and spice.
- Cask
- New charred American oak, 53-gallon, heavy toast with #3 char

Why it's craft
This bottle marries fifteen barrels of Indiana-distilled bourbon aged nine years or more, which Coppercraft did not distill itself. Rather than cutting the whiskey with water all at once, its team lowers the strength in the barrel over several weeks and adds petites eaux before bottling, a process of about three months. Coppercraft opened in Holland, Michigan in 2012 and has been owned since 2016 by Windquest Group, the DeVos family office.
