“The 20th-anniversary Act, adding three sherry casks to the port-finished Rendezvous rye.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- wild strawberry, blackberry-lemon jam, singed apple, honeycomb and warm fig, with sandalwood and leather
- palate
- blood orange, cherry fruit leather, cinnamon-dusted plum crumble, quince jam and toasted hazelnut, with cold-brew coffee and dried mint
- finish
- lingering berry preserves and pastry, with rye spice warming into a chai-spiced jam cookie
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
Two straight ryes: 95% rye and 5% malted barley, and 80% rye and 20% malted rye. The first is MGP's rye from Indiana and the second is High West's pot-still rye from Utah; together they make Rendezvous, the base of every Act. The port and sherry casks then lay dark fruit over that rye spice.
- Cask
- New charred American oak, then port and sherry casks
- Finish
- Ruby port, tawny port, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks
- Best served
- neat
Why it's craft
Each winter High West finishes its Rendezvous rye, its own pot-still rye blended with MGP rye, in port barrels and releases it as a numbered Act. Act 14 marks the distillery's 20th year and, for the first time, adds Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks to the ruby and tawny port. High West has been owned by Constellation Brands since 2016.
