“Malted rye from one family farm and one harvest, poured from a single barrel at full strength.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- Toasted wheat-flake cereal and bran, with dried mango, cooked pear, overripe banana, hay and a touch of cinnamon
- palate
- Earthy, grain-heavy cereal, then bubblegum, licorice, honey and orange peel under hot cinnamon and cracked pepper
- finish
- The heat drops off quickly into soft bread; malted milk, coconut and banana linger before a dry close of raisin and damp wood
Mash bill
- Malted rye100%
100% malted rye. The rye is grown on the Welter family farm in Putnam County, Indiana, which the family began converting to certified organic in 2012, rested fallow for three years and first harvested for rye in 2015. Journeyman malts the grain itself on its own malting floor in Michigan, and each Farm Series release uses a single grain from a single season, so the whiskey carries that harvest and nothing else.

Why it's craft
Farm Rye is estate whiskey: the rye is grown on the Welter family farm in Indiana, malted by Journeyman itself and distilled in Three Oaks, so one family controls it from seed to barrel. The Farm Series exists to show a single grain from a single season, which is why each bottle comes from one barrel at its own strength.
