“A blended bourbon made only from whiskeys distilled in-house, with no neutral spirit stretching it.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- blueberry muffin, strawberry pastry and baked apple with cinnamon, turning breadier, with buttered popcorn and honey
- palate
- creamy and oily, with vanilla, caramel and toffee, yeasty fruit, ripe orange, citrus peel and a little spearmint
- finish
- short; caramel and sweet corn with malt, fading to a dry, papery note
Mash bill
Full grain split not published.
New York corn, New York rye, Golden Promise malted barley and peated Chariot malt, in proportions that change with each batch and are not published. Each batch combines Kings County's own bourbon, rye and malt whiskeys, so those four grains are the full set it can draw on. The two malts come from the UK maltster Thomas Fawcett; the Chariot is peated, the Golden Promise is not.
- Best served
- neat, in a highball, or alongside a cold beer
Why it's craft
Blended whiskeys often stretch straight whiskey with neutral grain spirit; this one is made only from mature bourbon, rye, malt and corn whiskeys that Kings County distilled itself. The distillery pitches it between pot-still Irish whiskey and bourbon, and the oils carried over from its small pot stills give it a buttery weight. Kings County began in 2010 in a 325-square-foot room in East Williamsburg and has made all of its whiskey at the Brooklyn Navy Yard since 2012.
