“New York rye finished in sherry barrels from the surrounding Finger Lakes wineries.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- honey and holiday spice with baker's chocolate, dried orange and cherry, and a touch of fresh basil
- palate
- rye spice and dark chocolate with orange peel, butterscotch, nougat and dried red fruit over vanilla cream and oak
- finish
- lingering; rye spice and cracked black pepper stay on with a light buttermilk-frosting sweetness and a slightly bitter edge
Mash bill
- Rye80%
- Malted barley20%
80% rye, 20% malted barley. Finger Lakes Distilling makes it from New York-grown grain, and the recipe has no corn or wheat, so rye carries the spirit with malted barley alone beside it.

Why it's craft
Finger Lakes Distilling finishes this rye in sherry barrels from its own region's wineries, a nod to the wine country around Seneca Lake where the distillery sits. Founded by Brian McKenzie in Burdett, it mashes and distills New York-grown grain on site and bottles this rye without chill filtration.
