Full grain split not published.
80% dark pumpernickel rye, with non-GMO yellow corn, Ohio soft red winter wheat and two-row malted barley making up the rest; the split of those three is not published. Dark pumpernickel is a rare rye variety that Middle West chose for its softer spice. The three other grains round it into a four-grain rye before the port casks add their fruit.

Why it's craft
Middle West takes its dark pumpernickel rye, the grain at the heart of its whiskey, and finishes it in French oak casks that held Tawny Port for at least seven years. The rye is distilled in Columbus on a Vendome column still with a doubler and spends about five years in toasted, charred oak before the port casks. The distillery has made its whiskey in Columbus since 2008.
