“Older high-rye bourbon lots, averaging six to seven years, picked for cherry, allspice and cocoa.”

Tasting notes

nose
dark cherry, maple syrup, cinnamon roll and sweet mint, with marshmallow and charred oak behind
palate
caramel and cinnamon-baked apple, then allspice, hazelnut, cracked pepper and rye spice
finish
long; cocoa and cherry cobbler hold over earthy oak, then dry leather and peppercorn take over as it fades

Mash bill

A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.

Corn, rye and malted barley; Nelson's Green Brier has not published the split. It describes Reserve as a high-rye blend of bourbons averaging six to seven years old. The bourbons were distilled in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, and the distilleries are not named.

Cask
New charred American oak

Why it's craft

Reserve is Green Brier's selection of its older high-rye bourbon lots, averaging six to seven years, bottled at higher strength than the Classic. The whiskey was distilled at other plants in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee and blended in Nashville, and the company does not say which. It placed tenth on Whisky Advocate's Top 20 list for 2022. The distillery revives Charles Nelson's pre-Prohibition Green Brier name and has belonged entirely to Constellation Brands since 2024.
