“Miyagikyo Coffey-still corn grain bottled alone at 90 proof — creamy Japanese grain icon”
Tasting notes
- nose
- tropical fruits, coconut, and banana with honeyed citrus lift from Coffey corn grain
- palate
- rich, soft, sweet grain with vanilla wafer and creamy continuous-still texture
- finish
- delicate honeyed citrus fade
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
Predominantly corn distilled as grain whisky through traditional Coffey continuous stills at Miyagikyo. Corn drives the tropical-fruit and honeyed-citrus sweetness that makes Coffey Grain unusually drinkable as a standalone bottling rather than only a blender's stock. The still — patented by Aeneas Coffey in 1830 and valued by Masataka Taketsuru after his 1919 Scottish training — retains creamy ingredient character modern columns often strip away.
- Cask
- Old American oak (refilled, remade, re-charred)
