The Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru — often called the father of Japanese whisky — who established Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido for its cool climate and coal-fired pot still tradition. Miyagikyo Distillery opened in Sendai in 1969, adding Coffey continuous stills that power signature grain expressions. Within Asahi Group Holdings, Nikka remains the house that blends Scottish training with Japanese precision across malt and grain whisky.
