“NC grain-to-glass ASM built as a bourbon alternative — Munich malt + new/used oak split”
Tasting notes
- nose
- orange, chamomile, leather, and salted caramel with a hint of smokehouse
- palate
- pomegranate, Munich-malt caramel, baking spice, and bourbon-scale oak sweetness
- finish
- honeyed graham and chocolate-malt linger
Mash bill
- Locally grown and malted barley100%
100% locally grown and malted barley — pale malt plus Munich malt from Riverbend Malt House (~60 miles away). Munich was added specifically to pull caramel and darker fruit so Descendent can stand in for bourbon drinkers without ever becoming a corn whiskey. Same Speyside-leaning fermentation as Origin keeps orchard fruit in the house DNA.
- Cask
- New American oak (char #2/#4) + used bourbon barrels (53 gal)
- Best served
- versatile
Why it's craft
Independent Black Mountain grain-to-glass ASM; local Riverbend malt and a clear Appalachian single-malt thesis rather than a sourced Kentucky mash bill.
