Why it's craft
Southern Distilling released this bonded rye in August 2025: whiskey from one distilling season at one distillery, held four years in a bonded warehouse in Statesville, North Carolina. The family-owned company, founded by Pete and Vienna Barger in 2013, mashes, distills, ages and bottles its whiskey there and buys its grain from farms within about 20 miles. It began as a contract distiller and still makes whiskey for other brands alongside its own Southern Star line.
