Why it's craft
Southern Distilling mashes, ferments, distills and ages this bourbon in Statesville, North Carolina, and the bonded label holds it to one distilling season, one distillery and at least four years in a government-bonded warehouse. Pete and Vienna Barger founded the family-owned company in 2013, first making whiskey under contract for other brands, then wheated bourbon under their own Paragon name. It describes itself as one of the largest privately owned distilleries in the country, and the American Distilling Institute named it 2025 Distillery of the Year.
