“One season's distillate from a Hudson Valley farm, aged in shipping containers.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- sweet corn, vanilla and caramel, with dark fruit, orange and baking spice over oak
- palate
- corn and caramel, then apricot, orange and creamy vanilla, with honey and toasted wood underneath
- finish
- long; dry oak holds steady as the spice slowly fades
Mash bill
- Corn70%
- Rye25%
- Malted barley5%
70% corn, 25% rye, 5% malted barley. This is Taconic's house bourbon recipe, made from New York-grown grain with a quarter-share of rye. Taconic distills it below 160 proof so more of the grain's flavor carries into the spirit.
- Cask
- New charred American oak, Independent Stave Cooper's Select, #3 char
Why it's craft
Bottled in bond is a federal guarantee: the whiskey was distilled in one season at one distillery, aged at least four years under bond and bottled at 100 proof, and here that distillery is Taconic's own on the Coughlin family farm in Stanfordville. Its barrels rest in shipping containers rather than a traditional rickhouse. Paul and Carol Ann Coughlin started the distillery in 2013 under New York's farm distillery license, and it still runs on New York-grown grain and the farm's spring water.
