Carol Ann and Paul Coughlin turned their Dutchess County farm in Stanfordville, New York, into Taconic Distillery. They make Hudson Valley whiskey from nearby grain and the farm's mineral-rich spring water, distilled on a Vendome continuous column still. Founder's Rye is the house standard. Named for the founding fathers and rated highly in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, it is 95% rye and 5% malted barley, aged at least six years in new charred American oak, and bottled at 90 proof without chill filtration.
