“Irish-style triple-distilled pot still whiskey that takes its smoke from a finish in ex-peated whiskey casks.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- gentle peat over malted grain and ripe summer fruit
- palate
- smoke and peat on a malty base, with light spice and a touch of apple
- finish
- malt and light peat linger, with a hint of chocolate and a late burst of concentrated sugar
Mash bill
- Unmalted barley50%
- Malted barley50%
50% unmalted barley, 50% malted barley. This is the Irish single pot still recipe, and the label states it plainly: distilled from a mash of unmalted and malted barley. Talnua triple distills it in copper pot stills, and the smoke comes later, from finishing in casks that previously held peated whiskey.

Why it's craft
Talnua, established in Arvada in 2017, makes single pot still whiskey, the Irish style built on raw and malted barley, and it mashes, ferments and triple distills its own on copper pot stills. This bottling picks up its smoke after aging, in casks that previously held peated whiskey; the label credits those casks with its smoky depth.
