“Seven years in oak for an all-rye recipe from a single farm, the oldest rye Tattersall has bottled.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- cocoa powder and toasted pecan, then brown sugar, canned peach and raisin over a minty, herbal edge
- palate
- medium-heavy; spiced chocolate and buttery brioche give way to dark cherry, vanilla and caramel, with fried plantain, dried cranberry and a peppery bite
- finish
- slow to build; burnt brown sugar and creamy milk chocolate arrive first, then soften into vanilla and a delicate floral lift as the sweetness recedes
Mash bill
- Rye85%
- Malted rye15%
85% rye, a blend of the AC Hazlet and Bono varieties, and 15% malted rye. All of the rye comes from a single farm about 50 miles from the distillery; Tattersall buys it rather than growing its own. With no corn or barley in the recipe, every grain in the bottle is rye, part of it malted.
- Cask
- Charred American white oak
- Best served
- neat, over ice, or in a Sazerac or Boulevardier
Why it's craft
This is Tattersall's longest-aged rye, held more than seven years and made from rye grown on one farm about 50 miles from the distillery, with fewer than 100 cases produced. Founder Jon Kreidler opened Tattersall in Minneapolis in 2015, and the company mashes, ferments, distills and ages its own whiskey. Since closing the Minneapolis site in late 2024 it runs all production from its River Falls, Wisconsin distillery.
