“One hand-picked barrel of Treaty Oak's wheated Texas bourbon, given four years in the Hill Country heat.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- toasted vanilla, fig and caramel, with oak behind
- palate
- full and rounded; creamy vanilla and sweet corn, then baking spice, a sherry-like dried-fruit note and oak
- finish
- long; toasted oak and vanilla hold, closing on a soft black-pepper tingle
Mash bill
- Corn57%
- Wheat32%
- Barley11%
57% corn, 32% wheat, 11% barley. It is the same wheated recipe as the Legacy Reserve, made from yellow No. 1 corn and Texas wheat that Treaty Oak buys from Barton Springs Mill, a heirloom-grain mill in Dripping Springs. Using wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain keeps the spice in check and lets the oak and corn sweetness lead.
- Cask
- New American oak, #3 char
Why it's craft
Each bottle comes from one barrel the distillery tasted and chose, aged at least four years in the rickhouse on its Dripping Springs ranch, the longest of Treaty Oak's regular bourbons. It is the Legacy Reserve recipe left longer in wood and bottled stronger. Treaty Oak, founded in 2006, grinds, ferments, distills and ages everything on site from Barton Springs Mill grain; since November 2024 it has been owned by High Basin Brands.
