Why it's craft
Blue Ridge is the only one of Virginia Distillery Co.'s core finishes that uses fresh wood rather than a cask that held another drink: after years in first-fill bourbon barrels, the malt goes into new, toasted barrels made from oak grown in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The distillery makes the spirit itself in Lovingston, double distilling malted barley on copper pot stills built in Scotland. Its cask houses hold up to 5,000 casks each.
