Why it's craft
The casks for this single malt held red wine in Europe and were then shaved, toasted and re-charred, a treatment called STR that draws sugars and wine aromas out of the wood along with caramel, toffee and vanilla. Virginia Distillery Co. makes the whisky from start to finish in Lovingston, double distilling malted barley on Scottish-made copper pot stills, and bottles it at natural color without chill filtration. Dr. George G. Moore founded the distillery, and his family still owns it.
