- Malted Fritz barley100%
100% malted Fritz barley. Fritz, also known as NZ-151, came out of Washington State University's barley breeding work and was released in 2016 after it out-yielded the established malting varieties Copeland and AC Metcalf; Skagit Valley Malting in Burlington, Washington, malted it for this edition. Colere tastes one barley variety at a time, and Westland says Fritz brings fruity esters that turn herbaceous and dry at the end.

- Second-fill Cooper's Reserve and Cooper's Select American oak; first-fill ex-bourbon
Why it's craft
Colere is Westland's study of what barley variety does to whiskey: each edition is distilled from one variety, and this one is Fritz, bred for Washington growers at the state university and malted in the Skagit Valley. Westland has made its own single malt in Seattle since 2010 and has been owned by Rémy Cointreau since 2017.
