“Ten-year Kentucky bourbon finished against two toasted Vermont oak barrel heads, one of them toasted over smoked maple.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- honey and brown sugar with toasted cashew, light summer fruit, ripe banana and a faint dusting of baking spice
- palate
- honey, caramel and brown sugar over roasted almond, pie crust and baked cornbread, with a little lemon and oak
- finish
- medium; a brief flash of baking spice gives way to brown sugar, butterscotch and graham cracker, then fades gently to a toasted crust note and cedar
Mash bill
Full grain split not published.
About 80% corn, with rye and malted barley making up the other 20%; the split between those two is not published. WhistlePig did not distill it: the bourbon was made at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery, and the farm's part in it is the Vermont oak used to finish it.

Why it's craft
Snout-To-Tail is a bought-in Kentucky bourbon, and WhistlePig's work is in the finish. Each barrel gets two heads cut from Vermont oak, one medium-toasted and one toasted over smoked maple wood, and is turned partway through so the whiskey sits against both, a finish the brand calls a world first. It launched in January 2025 alongside a new WhistlePig outpost in Louisville, the rye farm's step into bourbon country.
