“Ten-year straight bourbons from three states, cut to strength with water from a New York limestone mine.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg over cream, with leather, chestnut and dried dark cherry beneath
- palate
- creamy vanilla and maple, then orange, cherry and almond, with honey and white pepper
- finish
- long; charred oak, leather and tobacco leaf linger with cinnamon, drying to woody spice and a last trace of vanilla
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
The grain recipes of the straight bourbons in this blend are not published. The barrels come from distilleries in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, so the blend draws on more than one recipe. What Widow Jane adds is the water: each batch is brought to strength with limestone mineral water from the Rosendale mines in New York.

Why it's craft
Widow Jane does not distill this bourbon: it buys ten-year straight bourbons from Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana and blends them by hand in Red Hook, Brooklyn, five barrels at a time. Each batch is brought down to strength with limestone mineral water from the Rosendale mines in upstate New York and bottled without chill filtration. Widow Jane opened in Brooklyn in 2012 and has been part of Heaven Hill Brands since Heaven Hill bought its parent, Samson & Surrey, in 2022.
