Widow Jane was founded in 2012 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. It is named for the limestone mine in Rosendale, New York, and the mine's mineral water is trucked to Brooklyn to bring every whiskey down to bottling strength. The house sources bourbon and rye from distilleries in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee, then blends, finishes and bottles in Brooklyn. It also releases The Vaults, an annual limited bourbon finished in a different wood each year. Heaven Hill bought Widow Jane in February 2022 as part of the Samson & Surrey portfolio. The distillery runs a tasting room, a cocktail bar and tours.
