“Thirteen-year bourbons from three states, finished aging in a Brooklyn rick house.”
Tasting notes
- nose
- vanilla bean, caramel and brown sugar with black tea, candied ginger and a cedar, cigar-box note
- palate
- creamy and full; pecan pie and toasted grain bread with apricot, fig and maple, cut by grapefruit peel
- finish
- long; nutmeg and birch beer with sweet tobacco and a late wave of pepper, drying to oak tannin
Mash bill
A blend of several whiskeys, so no single grain split.
Recipe not published: a blend of high-rye straight bourbons from distilleries in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. Bourbon must be at least 51% corn, and in a high-rye recipe rye takes a larger share of the rest, which shows up here as pepper late in the sip. Drawing on three states means more than one recipe is in the blend.
- Cask
- Charred American oak

Why it's craft
Lucky Thirteen is bourbon Widow Jane bought rather than distilled: straight bourbons from Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee, aged at least 13 years. Part of that time is spent in Widow Jane's rick house in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where the barrels meet a different climate from their original warehouses before being blended a handful at a time. Each batch is cut with Rosendale limestone water and bottled without chill filtration; the Brooklyn house has been owned by Heaven Hill Brands since 2022.
