Why it's craft
Wilderness Trail makes this rye from heritage grain grown on a Kentucky farm near its Danville distillery and mashes it sweet, without the soured backset most Kentucky distilleries use. Its founders, Shane Baker and Pat Heist, came to whiskey from fermentation science and still run the distillery, in which Campari Group has held a 70% stake since 2022. Because it is bottled in bond, it comes from a single distilling season and spent at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse.
