Phil Brandon left a corporate job in 2009 to start a distillery, and Rock Town opened in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 2010. It buys its grain from farmers across Arkansas, and its own whiskeys are milled, mashed, fermented, double distilled on a copper pot still, aged and bottled at the distillery, many of them in small barrels made by Gibbs Brothers Cooperage in Arkansas. Its Arkansas Bourbon was the first bourbon whiskey made in the state. In March 2020, to keep up with demand, Brandon began a second line through Bardstown Bourbon Company's Collaborative Distilling Program, where his recipes are column distilled in Kentucky from Arkansas-grown corn and wheat and then aged back in Little Rock as the Column Still Collection. Brandon is still head distiller, and the distillery runs tours, cocktail classes and a full cocktail bar.
