Patrick Evans, a third-generation farmer whose family were early pioneers in British Columbia's Comox Valley, bought 380 acres of oceanfront farmland on northern Vancouver Island in 2005. He founded Shelter Point Distillery there in 2011 to give barley grown on the farm a commercial use, in a barn-style building finished with lumber from the surrounding woodlands. The distillery makes single malt whisky from Canadian two-row barley grown in British Columbia, with slow fermentations and double distillation in copper wash and spirit pot stills made by Forsyths, and ages it in barrel warehouses close to the ocean. In 2023 the Scotch Malt Whisky Society released three Shelter Point bottlings, a first for a Canadian distillery. Shelter Point is now owned by Nelson Investments, another Vancouver Island business, and its head distiller is James Marinus, who farmed on the island for more than 35 years before learning whisky-making under a retired Scottish master distiller.

Owned by Nelson Investments.
