Far north of Minneapolis, on the Swanson family farm in Hallock, Michael Swanson set out to make Minnesota rye a regional style the way Pennsylvania and Maryland once defined rye identity. AC Hazlet winter rye and heirloom corn are planted and harvested on-site, open-top fermented with house yeast, and double-distilled on a Vendome hybrid pot-and-column still. Roknar — Norse for warrior — is the house flag: small-barrel aged, Cognac-cask finished, and bottled as a terroir argument for northern grain.
