Joe Beatrice founded Barrell in 2013 as an independent blender rather than a grain-to-glass distillery. He set out to show that transparent sourcing, careful finishing and blending could be a craft of its own. Its whiskey comes from several U.S. sources and sometimes Canadian ones, and the house work is what happens next: separate finishes, multi-wood programs and blends built batch by batch. Seagrass, Dovetail and Vantage are the core year-round labels, and numbered Bourbon batches remain its yearly release. In early 2026 Barrell sold its Jeffersontown blending site and consolidated work at its original Gilmore Industrial Boulevard facility in Louisville.

There is no public tasting room and no tours. Visits are private and by invitation only.
